To get an idea of just how physical Crossfit is, and all the elements that go into preparing for it, I asked legendary Crossfitter and Olympic coach Rob Alberts to share his thoughts on how people prepare. Rob had this to say: “The best thing you can do to prepare for a major sport event such as the CrossFit Games is get your body used to what’s coming. The most important component in training for strength endurance is strength. And when you train incorrectly guess what happens? BOOM! That’s right, BOOM!! Muscle fibers are not adequate in your muscles or in your joints, so you become weak in general. People don’t take long enough rest periods between sets at quick-twitch limits (and yes no matter when this type of training falls). They also don’t take long enough rest periods between intense bouts at slow twitch reps (this way of training can lead to greater fatigue but more importantly better results when properly designed). When working out consider taking double the time between intense bouts then moving rapidly from one bout to another. Between short rest periods use high intensity techniques such as blood flow restriction which will enhance muscle development without additional damage to collagen fibers by rapidly recruiting fast twitch muscle fibers while sparing slow twitch fibres..
