How Many People Get Into The Crossfit Games?

The Crossfit Games have become the premier athletic competition for strength athletes. The 2016 men’s and women’s Open (and Middle) competitions welcomed over 10,000 competitors from 86 countries during the two days of competition. Of that field, 1,075 qualified through regional qualifying events around the world. There are also sub-divisions within each Crossfit region. If you can make it to Regionals in your area, even if it is only at the Invitational level (about 1000-1500 participants), you can compete in Open or Regionals, or both! However many people qualify for the Games varies by year; last year there were 2599 qualified competitors, including non-athletes who exceeded their weight category minimums by more than one pound. This equates to an average of 133 entries per continent per day! To give some perspective on just how many people enter: that is nearly 3 times as many entrants as competed in last year’s World Weightlifting Championships.
