When I started, I went head first into flipping tires because I was stronger at flipping tires than wall balls. That didn’t last long. Then the challenge became learning to flip tires while snowboarding and motorcycling thousands of miles a year in the mountains—a feat nearly impossible to accomplish without injuring yourself over time from fatigue and lack of core stability. Instead, there were exercises that were similar yet helped me do something slightly different every time: Inverted rows with power cleans instead of low pulls, or baseball twists but not lying on my back or rolling onto my stomach; heavy bent-over rows using bumper plates instead of weight plates; deadlifts done off a box that allowed me to practice good mechanics by keeping my feet together and leading with my chest rather than bending forward at the hips, and so on…There was never one thing anyone “said” would work for you—it was an ever-changing array of movements tailored specifically around your current capabilities and what worked best for YOUR BODY at THIS TIME in YOUR TRAINING LIFE!
