Today I am going to talk you through how I ripped out my gym and built myself a brand new crossfit based home gym. It’s similar to what they have done in CrossFit HQ but with a few extra bits and bobs added in for strongman, powerlifting and Olympic lifts too.

Mike already has a full set of the 25 stone competition bar which was something he got as a birthday present from me as well as several plates suitable for 150kg lifters whilst most people just use 45lb plates. We also have two 40lb bumper plates that we use mainly for those heavier lifts such as squats, bench press etc…and then some 75lbs dumbbells. So now you’ve got all the heavy lifting equipment sorted how do you go about building your own home gym? Well obviously it depends on how much room you have available!! If your bedroom or living room is going to be overlooked by any potential customers this is probably not going to happen! But if your dead center in your favorite action film/ TV show – DO IT!!! In that case here’s what I’d recommend:

You’ll see coaches at most Crossfit gyms place a barbell in the powerrack with two iron plates on top of it. The athletes are then expected to squat the barbell twice before executing their movements for certain workout circuits or exercises. This back-to-back heavy lifting is very taxing on the muscles of your legs, which is why CrossFit advocates recommend eating post-workout meals containing protein, amino acids and carbs to help you recover quicker between sets.
