” This is a great question, and the answer might surprise you. In fact, there are plenty of people who have been competing in CrossFit for many years and never once thought about doing an Open. I know that because I am one of them. Actually, all three of the athletes profiled here – Janae Dent, Samara McPherson and Kati Hammon – competed in the 2016 Open as well as the next few (2014-2017). But they never finished high enough to do it again! They realized that there was only one big event per year, and decided to “save” their results from year to year instead.
To be honest, we were all really clueless when we first started coaching our athletes how best to manage their movement over time…especially since we didn’t understand what we were managing! So I sat down with my friend Maria Paz Williams(she coaches at Soul Speedometrics) to film a short video demonstrating how she teaches her classes whenever I need extra help explaining what she is doing:

Sometimes it’s as simple as switching up some body weight, kettlebells, resistance bands and boards; making sure to focus on pushing instead of pulling movements; and using variable speeds at various levels of intensity. What Cardio Can You do Without Shaving Your Legs? The high intensity interval training (HIIT) I stressed in my bodyweight workout for women is the perfect combination of one variable speed/intensity zone with two others below. The key is finding what works best for you and your fitness goals. If nobody ever knows that you’re doing HIIT because all they see are “old lady knee trembles” then that’s ok too! When it comes to keeping up the cardio, plan around food/fuel intake, rest days etc., but give something like this a try at least once per week, if not twice! It will make an impact bigger than most people think since most people are used to spinning or climbing or raking their legs back when working out without noticing how odd their legs look under sweats… which by the way gets increasingly popular every year!! Stick to these strategies throughout your life… don’t rely on any single workout at different times in your life just because people have told you that if you don’t watch TV long enough in the morning then you’ll be fat forever.. nutrition
